These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Vaani at vaani-os.comand related services (the "Service"). By accessing or using Vaani, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About Vaani
Vaani provides multilingual video meetings with live translated subtitles, focused on Indian languages and code-mixed speech (e.g. Hinglish). Video conferencing is delivered via WebRTC; translation is provided as on-screen subtitles. The Service is currently offered as a pilot — features, availability, and limits may change.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account and host meetings. Guests joining without an account must comply with these Terms and any rules set by the meeting host. If you use Vaani on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
3. Accounts and authentication
- Hosts sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account.
- You must provide accurate information and keep your account details current.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account, including meetings you create and participants you admit.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose a security risk.
4. Guest access
Participants may join meetings without creating a Vaani account by entering a display name and room code or link. Guests must not impersonate others or use offensive display names. Hosts are responsible for managing their rooms and the conduct of participants they invite.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, harassing, or fraudulent purposes
- Record, distribute, or publish meeting content without consent of all participants where required by law
- Attempt to bypass security, access unauthorized rooms, or interfere with the Service
- Upload malware, spam automated requests, or overload our systems
- Use the Service to process highly sensitive data (e.g. certain health or financial records) without appropriate legal basis and safeguards
- Reverse engineer or resell the Service except as expressly permitted
We may remove content, end meetings, or suspend access if we reasonably believe these rules have been violated.
6. Meetings, translation, and accuracy
- Live translation is assistive, not perfect. Subtitles are generated by automated speech recognition and machine translation. They may contain errors, delays, or omissions — especially with accents, code-mixed speech, background noise, or technical terms.
- Do not rely on Vaani subtitles as the sole record of legally binding conversations, medical advice, safety-critical instructions, or certified interpretation.
- Translation is routed only to languages selected by participants in a room. Enabling or disabling translation and recording is controlled by meeting settings and host actions.
- A short latency (typically under a few seconds) is normal between speech and displayed subtitles.
7. Content and intellectual property
- Your content: You retain ownership of audio, video, and other material you share in meetings. You grant us a limited license to process that content solely to operate the Service (e.g. transcription, translation, storage per your settings).
- Our property: The Vaani name, logo, software, and website design are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy or misuse them without permission.
- Feedback: Suggestions you provide may be used to improve the Service without obligation to you.
8. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
9. Service availability
We strive for reliable uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, third-party outages (including Google, Sarvam AI, or cloud providers), or factors outside our control. Features marked as pilot or beta may be modified or discontinued without notice.
10. Fees
During the pilot, access may be free or subject to usage limits we communicate separately. If paid plans are introduced, we will provide pricing terms before charges apply. API usage for translation may be subject to fair-use limits to protect service quality for all users.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT SUBTITLES WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR TIMELY.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VAANI AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) INR 5,000.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Vaani and its operators from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
14. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access with or without notice if you breach these Terms or if continued provision poses risk to the Service or other users. Sections that by nature should survive (e.g. disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification) will survive termination.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India, unless applicable consumer protection law requires otherwise.
16. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the latest version. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
